Meghan Howell - Racing with Lucy Charles-Barclay

RacedayFuel ambassador Meghan Howell recently qualified for the Boston Marathon! She did so with the support of RacedayFuel, and her rad race crew from the Lucy Charles-Barclay race team.

We caught up with Meghan after the race to get the scoop on her season leading up to the race, and her experience training with Team LCB.

"In the summer of 2020 I was picked to be one of ten athletes from around the world to join the Lucy Charles-Barclay race team.

Being coached by one of the world's best female triathletes was a dream come true. Myself and the LCB team quickly became a world wide triathlon family. We had early morning and late night Zwift rides together depending on where we live. These rides were always the highlight of the week because we would talk, have some laughs but also put in a tough session together.

Our goal was to race in Germany at Challenge Roth and we were making some great progress, getting faster and stronger with the guidance and support of Lucy Charles-Barclay. Unfortunately, plans had to change due to the pandemic. The team and I decided it was best to race Challenge Roth together in 2022.

This doesn’t mean the training stopped. We continued to chase our own goals while still supporting and motivating each other from around the world. This is when I decided to start training for my first marathon.

With few triathlon races happening in Ontario this past summer I knew it was a great opportunity to focus on running in hopes of qualifying for the Boston marathon. I spent the next twelve weeks building my mileage and testing my limits each week as the runs became longer. Running has always been a huge part of my life so it felt good to have my focus on completing this goal.

After two years of not racing I was finally able to toe the line on October 17th, 2021 in Georgina, Ontario. The morning of the race I felt very relaxed, I knew I put in the work leading up to this day and I also had RacedayFuel fueling me along the 42.2km run. It was an incredible feeling crossing the finish line of my first marathon with a qualifying time for Boston of 3:15!

As we head into the winter months, the LCB race team and I will begin training together again as we work towards completing our goal of an IronMan distance race. Stay tuned for more updates on the journey towards Roth!"
